Firewalking dates back to the Polynesians who inhabited the islands of Hawaii . As part of their spiritual rituals, they would walk hot lava flows as offering to their religious beliefs. Other cultures also fire walk as part of spiritual and physical healing. People's reasons for firewalking vary from the spiritual to the overcoming of life obstacles and fear. Instructor through Tolley Burkan in March of 2003 during a spiritual journey to uncover self. During this journey not only did she discover a lifelong calling but she found a way to help people to uncover and discover their own unique spiritual paths. Fire Iris has proved to be a selfless teacher focusing purely on the spiritual aspects of fire walking.
